The story of ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' opens with the [[Star Festival]], where the Mushroom Kingdom celebrates the centennial passing of a comet. Peach sends a letter to Mario, inviting him to her castle. The same night, Bowser and his armada of [[Airship]]s attack the [[Castle Gardens]]. From her balcony, Peach watches worriedly while holding a [[Baby Luma|Luma]] she had found, as Bowser approaches her castle in his airship. Bowser then invites Peach to the creation of his new galaxy. When Peach does not answer, Bowser summons a [[UFO]], which cut the castle out the ground, and the Airships uproot it into [[outer space]]. Mario manages to arrive at Peach's Castle before it was lifted, but a [[Magikoopa]] launch a [[spell]] at Mario, sending him flying as Peach cries his name. Mario begins his intergalactic journey to rescue Peach and retrieve the [[Power Star]]s.

Peach would sometimes secretly send letters to Mario, supporting him and embedding five [[1-Up Mushroom]]s within the letters. If the player is playing as [[Luigi]], Peach still addresses the letter to Mario and sends 20 1-Up Mushrooms instead of five. The [[Mailtoad]] tells Luigi not to care about the letter being addressed to Mario.

Once the [[Comet Observatory]] has enough power, [[Rosalina]] uses it to take Mario to the center of the universe, where Peach is held captive. After Mario defeats Bowser a final time, Peach is rescued. In the ending, she wakes up in the Mushroom Kingdom, next to Mario and Bowser. Peach is last seen looking into the sky wondering, as other creatures Mario had met during his adventures are now in her kingdom.
