In the opening of ''[[New Super Mario Bros.]]'', Peach and Mario take a walk near Peach's Castle. The castle is suddenly hit by a lightning strike, but as Mario goes to investigate, Bowser Jr. sneaks behind Peach and kidnaps her, like in ''Super Mario Sunshine'', but without his Shadow Mario alias.

Peach is carried in tow by Bowser Jr. across the eight [[world]]s as he makes his way between [[tower]]s and [[castle]]s. The only level where Peach is encountered is [[World 8-Bowser's Castle (New Super Mario Bros.)|World 8-Bowser's Castle]], in the final room, where after Mario defeats both Bowser and Bowser Jr., Peach floats down to Mario and rewards him with a kiss.
